V l\u00e9t\u011b 1940 vstoupil do RAF a brzy byl p\u0159id\u011blen k 111. peruti. Pozd\u011bji p\u016fsobil p\u0159edev\u0161\u00edm u 68. no\u010dn\u00ed st\u00edhac\u00ed perut\u011b, kde se stal velitelem letky. Pat\u0159il k pr\u016fkopn\u00edk\u016fm no\u010dn\u00edch st\u00edhac\u00edch operac\u00ed \u2013 l\u00e9tal na stroj\u00edch vybaven\u00fdch prvn\u00edm palubn\u00edm radiolok\u00e1torem a dok\u00e1zal \u00fasp\u011b\u0161n\u011b zasahovat proti n\u011bmeck\u00fdm bombard\u00e9r\u016fm.<\/p>\n<p>Jeho v\u00e1le\u010dn\u00e1 bilance je impozantn\u00ed. Do konce v\u00e1lky nal\u00e9tal 489 opera\u010dn\u00edch hodin, z toho 386 v noci. Sest\u0159elil 10 nep\u0159\u00e1telsk\u00fdch letoun\u016f a dv\u011b bezpilotn\u00ed st\u0159ely V-1; dal\u0161\u00ed dva letouny po\u0161kodil. L\u00e9tal a bojoval prakticky po cel\u00fdch p\u011bt let v\u00e1le\u010dn\u00e9 slu\u017eby, jeho sest\u0159ely byly v\u017edy onou t\u0159e\u0161ni\u010dkou na dortu, odm\u011bnou za \u0161\u0148\u016fru patrol, p\u0159i nich\u017e se nic nep\u0159ihodilo. Za sv\u00e9 v\u00fdkony z\u00edskal britsk\u00e1 vyznamen\u00e1n\u00ed DSO, DFC a AFC, stejn\u011b jako mnohon\u00e1sobn\u011b \u010ceskoslovensk\u00fd v\u00e1le\u010dn\u00fd k\u0159\u00ed\u017e.<\/p>\n<p>Jeho kari\u00e9ra v\u0161ak po n\u00e1vratu do vlasti nena\u0161la pokra\u010dov\u00e1n\u00ed \u2013 po \u00fanoru 1948 ode\u0161el do exilu, kde \u017eil a\u017e do sv\u00e9 smrti.
